When I was in high school, I enrolled myself in an Outward Bound course - we were backpacking through Canyonlands, Utah. Our guide was fairly new to the course and we were 3 miles lost of the trail. The group was tired and absolutely ready to give in and pitch a tent for the night. The sun was quickly gaining on us. While everyone talked about how they wanted to go back to a hotel and shower, I walked around taking in my surroundings. Exhausted and defeated, I stumbled across a beautiful flower growing in between the rocks. It gave me life and sustained me for the rest of the journey. We were able to find our trail again. It was a gem in a desolate place.
