Last night we watched Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai and the movie reawakened my love of films. In Long Beach, I used to watch almost one every other day. I immersed myself in the colors and compositions, in the weaving of tales, and crafting of themes. I rather miss the long and slow storytelling of past films. Lost in Translation also does it. There is something to be said of the pacing of these two films that allows us to explore the crevices and empty spaces between speech and spectacle.
